Sen. Kerry Blames Tornados on Global Warming

Okay, you just have to read this stupid BS. Even though the last two hurricane seasons have not been harbingers of manmade warming (as predicted by fruitcakes like Al Gore-Christ), John Kerry is proving here why he wasn't elected as president...because he's just a big goober with no brain. Here he is trying to tie a recent weather event (tornado outbreak) to global warming, which is what AGW advocates do every time a weather disaster strikes, unless, of course, it's a winter weather disaster.
But...sometimes they try to say that even harsh winter weather proves "climate change"...the words "global warming" are left out in that case.

I've had this discussion before with folks. Here's the problem with trying to pin severe thunderstorms and tornados on global warming. A warm air mass is only half the story; it the warm air mass from the equator region doesn't mix with a cold air mass from the arctic region and create a strong temperature gradient, there's no severe weather. Of course, the media (and their Democrat politicians) focus only on the warm part of that equation.

Sen. Kerry Blames Tornados on Global Warming:

[I] don’t want to sort of leap into the larger meaning of, you know, inappropriately, but on the other hand, the weather service has told us we are going to have more and more intense storms,” Kerry said. “And insurance companies are beginning to look at this issue and understand this is related to the intensity of storms that is related to the warming of the earth. And so it goes to global warming and larger issues that we’re not paying attention to. The fact is the hurricanes are more intensive, the storms are more intensive and the rainfall is more intense at certain places at certain times and the weather patterns have changed.”
But we've got harsh winter weather all over the globe this year, doofus-brain. What about that in your global warming spiel?

Gore: Recent Northeast Storms Proof of Global Warming

Is anyone surprised by this windbag's claims? Everything, to him, is caused by global warming. It used to be that empirical weather events associated with excessive heat (e.g., droughts, hurricanes, ice melts, heat waves, etc.) were blamed on "global warming." Then "global warming" morphed into "manmade climate change" to allow for antithetical weather events (e.g., snow storms, record cold temperatures, etc.).

See the scam? No matter what the weather event--whether associated with cold or warm temperatures, it can be BLAMED on man's use of oil. So, what's Al's solution? His brand of alternate energy, of course, which means saps who buy those products and services will DIRECTLY feed Al Gore's coffers, as he is heavily invested in carbon trading and other global warming schemes.

Have fun being a sucker, America. There's one born every minute, and apparently the delivery rooms have been extremely busy in the last few decades.

If there’s a drought – it’s global warming. When there’s a hurricane – it’s global warming. If there are heavy snows or even blizzards – it’s somehow global warming. And amazingly, the latest round of rainy and windy weather in the Northeast, well that’s consistent with this phenomenon as well, so says former Vice President Al Gore.

Gore, the self-anointed climate change alarmist-in-chief, told supporters on a March 15 conference call that severe weather in certain regions of the country could be attributed to carbon in the atmosphere – including the recent rash of rainy weather.

Hurricanes "above average" this year

Here we go again. We’ve had “above average” hurricane forecasts over the past two years, and they were WRONG (and apparently Al Gore is wrong too)! Nothing against Dr. Gray, who is also a fellow global warming skeptic, but this proves a point. Forecasting anything associated with weather and climate accurately beyond a few days is an exercise in futility. This means you can ignore all those global warming doom-sayers who proclaim we’ll be extinct in 10 – 100 years (depends on which prophet you listen to).

Let’s see how accurate this hurricane forecast turns out to be; statistically speaking, if they keep saying we’ll have an “above average” cyclone season then they’ll eventually be correct just based on law-of-averages. Notice the safety of the prediction: “above average but not as strong as 2005.” As long as the season isn’t as slow as last year and fails to be as strong as 2005, they’ll be deemed right. So let’s mark it; the prediction is 15 named storms, 8 hurricanes, and 4 hurricanes that are strong (>111 mph).

FOXNews.com - Forecasters Predict 'Well Above Average' Hurricane Activity for 2008 Season - Science News | Science & Technology | Technology News:

Fasten your seatbelts, it's gonna be a bumpy hurricane season.

That's the latest word from a team of Colorado State University forecasters, who predict the nation's Atlantic coast will experience a hurricane season "well above average."

"Current oceanic and atmospheric trends indicate that we will likely have an active Atlantic basin hurricane season," said William Gray, who heads the university's forecast team.

More Irony: New Obama Climate Service Postponed by Blizzard

Poetic justice continues to pile-on the alarmists and global warming believers out there, even amidst all the empirical data and fraud evidence to the contrary. Thulsa Doom Obama, refusing to acknowledge recent record-setting cold or climate scandal after climate scandal, is sticking to the party-line: Man’s use of fossil fuels (capitalism) is heating up the world. What would you expect from a Marxist like Obama and his Comrades?

Of course, Mother Nature and TRUTH get the last words. Sorry, TD Obama.

So, this schmuck alarmist in the article is going to teach us ‘children’ the difference between climate and weather. Sorry, but the weather reflects the climate. After all, their version of climate equals warmer temperatures that drive empirical changes in weather. But when the empirical part doesn’t fit their template (like all these blizzards), they poo-poo it away and lecture us for not knowing the difference between climate and weather. Or they’ll claim that warming causes the observed cooling; or they’ll claim that La Nina is masking warming.

This is what I call climate revisionism. If there’s a heat wave, hurricane, or if a chunk of ice melts somewhere in the Antarctic, however (even when it doesn’t really happen as recent scandals have shown), they’re quick to jump up and say, “See, see? Global warming!!!” The opposite empirical evidence results in all sorts of hysterical contortions on the part of alarmists, like this lecture on ‘climate’ versus ‘weather.’

As D.C. continued to dig out from Snowmageddon and is keeping an eye on another storm system, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration was busy making a climate change announcement.

NOAA, part of the Department of Commerce, is going to be providing information to individuals and decision-makers through a new NOAA Climate Service office. “More and more, Americans are witnessing the impacts of climate change in their own backyards, including sea-level rise, longer growing seasons, changes in river flows, increases in heavy downpours, earlier snowmelt and extended ice-free seasons in our waters. People are searching for relevant and timely information about these changes to inform decision-making about virtually all aspects of their lives,” the release says.

Earlier snowmelt? That would be nice.

Turns out the release was planned prepared ahead of the snowstorm, which shut federal agencies today and forced its senders to hold a press conference by telephone instead of at the National Press Club.

Now, Quieter Hurricane Season Predicted

I admire Dr. Gray, because he's a global warming skeptic, but he's unwittingly proving my point about scientists and their predictions about our complex climate systems. This, of course, involves El Nino again. But review the last few years where busy hurricane seasons were predicted, only to remain in the tepid and weak.

The liberal enviro-psychos love to blames hurricanes on global warming, but hurricanes haven't really showed up since Katrina as predicted. Al Gore heavily implied in his dumb Power Point movie that Katrina was caused by global warming. We can see where that little bit of empirical pootage ended up.

Frankly, Dr. Gray is considered the foremost hurricane expert, but his predictions have been lackluster in the last several years. This should give everyone pause about the scientists predicting global warming doom one-hundred years into the future; it should definitely make you question idiots like Prince Charles and Al Gore, two NON-SCIENTISTS who issue climate predictions all the time.

MIAMI (AFP) - Weather experts on Wednesday reduced the number of projected hurricanes in the north Atlantic this season to four, two of them major hurricanes with winds above 178 kilometers (111 miles) per hour.

After one of the calmest starts to the hurricane season in a decade, the experts from Colorado State University said the development of an El Nino effect in the Pacific had caused them to scale back their projections for the Atlantic.

Speaking of Bad Computer Models

I was just having a discussion with a global warming believer about climate computer models in the comments of an earlier blog post (see Sagan's Baloney Detection Kit); this is a timely story. Remember, models don't mean a damn thing if they're programmed wrong or are fed bad data: Garbage-in equals garbage-out. That's why computer models that predict hurricane strength and likely landfall locations are filled with uncertainty until just before the storms make landfall. And a hurricane--complicated though it is--pales compared to the complexity of the worldwide climate. This is also why we still can't accurately forecast local weather more than 5-days out (and those forecasts are often wrong). Plus, a computer model--just like statistics--can be made to paint any picture in the hands of a clever, devious scientist.

Computer models that predict climatic warming due to manmade gas emissions are WRONG, and given the political environment today, likely VERY BIASED and therefore UNBELIEVABLE.

A BBC weather forecaster has suggested that the Met Office's super-computer has a 'warm bias' which has stopped it predicting bitterly cold spells like the one we have just endured.

Paul Hudson said the error may have crept into the computer's climate model as a result of successive years of milder weather.

His claim was rejected by the Met Office but other experts said there could be flaws in the system, which was first developed 50 years ago.

GASP!: Obama's Energy Secretary Predicts Certain Doom

Well, Secretary Steven Chu has jumped on the goofball bandwagon along with Al Gore, Dr. Hansen, and Prince Charles. They’re all part of the same cult—the Cult of Global Warming Doom. And why? Well, there are currently substantial barriers to the policies they want to enact (like public doubt), and public fear is the only way these Draconian measures will happen—public fear which can drive political action.

Please read the last three paragraphs I included from the article; they contain the only responses really needed for this idiotic hogwash. Just remember: Experienced, educated weather forecasters can’t ACCURATELY predict what the weather will be like five days from today. Yet, these climate alarmists and opportunists have been deemed so smart (with their human-made computer models) that we’re to believe them when they say what our worldwide climate will be 100 years from now.

PUH-LEAAZZZEEEE!!!! The climate is far more complex than mere weather—thousands of additional variables, both known and unknown. More fear to be found in the GASP! series and Dr. Brignell’s warmlist.

Energy Secretary Offers Dire Global Warming Prediction

Speaking at the Summit of the Americas in the Carribean nation of Trinidad and Tobago, Steven Chu says some islands could disappear if water levels rise as a result of greenhouse-gas induced climate change.

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad and Tobago -- Caribbean nations face "very, very scary" rises in sea level and intensifying hurricanes, and Florida, Louisiana and even northern California could be overrun with rising water levels due to global warming triggered by carbon-based greenhouse gases, Energy Secretary Steven Chu said Saturday.

Chu's comments followed meetings with environmental ministers attending the fifth Summit of the Americas. He did not shy away from the most perilous predictions about the potential effects of global warming.

He said global temperatures have already risen by 0.8 degree Centigrade, that another 1 degree increase was certain to occur and "there's a reasonable probability we can go above 4 degrees Centigrade to 5 and 6 more."

Chu painted a dire picture of the implications.

***

"Secretary Chu's assertions on sea level rise and hurricanes are quite simply being proven wrong by the latest climate data. As the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute reported in December 12, 2008: There is 'no evidence for accelerated sea-level rise.'"

Morano said hurricane activity levels in both hemispheres of the globe are at 30 years lows and hurricane experts like MIT's Kerry Emanuel and Tom Knutson of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration "are now backing off their previous dire predictions.”

He said Chu is out of date on the science and is promoting unverified and alarming predictions that have already been proven contrary.

Dust is Warming Atlantic, Not CO2

Here you go, warmaholics. And yes…I found the global warming ‘disclaimer’ statement in the article (see highlighted last sentence), since LiveScience is obviously part of the establishment still trying to prop up this dumbass theory.

The last highlighted sentence below does let slip one little thing, while still trying hold on to the AGW pipedream: Climate systems are complex, and current models (that show us boiling ourselves due to capitalism) don’t and CANNOT take into account EVERY variable needed to accurately predict future climate. If dust storms were a missing variable, how many more missing variables are there? In other words, we’re not smart enough yet to predict 100 years out. We can’t even predict the weather five days out accurately!

Dust Responsible for Most of Atlantic Warming

The warming of Atlantic Ocean waters in recent decades is largely due to declines in airborne dust from African deserts and lower volcanic emissions, a new study suggests.

Since 1980, the tropical North Atlantic has been warming by an average of a half-degree Fahrenheit (a quarter-degree Celsius) per decade.

While that number may sound small, it can translate to big impacts on hurricanes, which are fueled by warm surface waters, said study team member Amato Evan of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. For example, the ocean temperature difference between 1994, a quiet hurricane year, and 2005's record-breaking year of storms (including Hurricane Katrina), was just 1 degree Fahrenheit.

Evan and his colleagues had previously shown that African dust and other airborne particles can suppress hurricane activity by reducing how much sunlight reaches the ocean and keeping the sea surface cool. Dusty years predict mild hurricane seasons, while years with low dust activity — including 2004 and 2005 — have been linked to stronger and more frequent storms.

***

This adjustment brings the estimate of global warming's impact on the Atlantic more in line with the smaller degree of ocean warming seen elsewhere, such as the Pacific.

Of course, this doesn't discount the importance of global warming, Evan said, but indicates that newer climate models will need to include dust storms as a factor to accurately predict how ocean temperatures will change.

Recent climate-related headlines

Just a few more recent, telling articles that relate to climate change, packaged together here for your reading pleasure.

China battles "coldest winter in 100 years"| Reuters
:

CHENZHOU, China, Feb 4 (Reuters) - Millions remained stranded in China on Monday ahead of the biggest holiday of the year as parts of the country suffered their coldest winter in a century.

Freezing weather has killed scores of people and left travellers stranded before the Lunar New Year, or Spring Festival -- the only opportunity many people have to take a holiday all year.

J'lem experiences second snow of '08 | Jerusalem Post :
Dozens of snowplows and tractors, and 34 tons of salt stood ready in Jerusalem to battle the snowstorm that began on Monday night, which is the second one to blanket the capital this year.

By evening the bright sunshine had turned into driving rain and strong winds. A bit after dark, the flakes began falling. Forecasters said that snow could cover areas as far south as Mitzpe Ramon in the Negev.

The Associated Press: 3 Dead As Snow Hits Texas Panhandle:
LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — A snowstorm hit the Texas Panhandle early Thursday, leaving at least three people dead and causing a 40-vehicle pileup that shut down an interstate for several hours, officials said.

One person was killed and at least two were injured in the pileup caused by blowing snow that limited visibility and slick, icy spots that made Interstate 40 treacherous, Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Wayne Beighle said.

The Associated Press: Warmer Atlantic Worsens Hurricanes:
WASHINGTON (AP) — When the water in the hurricane breeding grounds of the Atlantic warms one degree in the dead of summer, overall hurricane activity jumps by half, according to a new study.

Scientists have long known that hurricanes get their enormous energy from warm waters, so the warmer the water, the more fuel a storm has to either start up or get stronger. The study calculates how much storm frequency and strength is due to warmer sea water, said author Mark Saunders, professor of climate prediction at the University College London.

Right! That's why the past few hurricane seasons (predicted to be looming disasters) have been a complete bust. Drop the Al Gore schtick already. An article a few days earlier said this...

The Associated Press: Forecasters Debate Hurricanes, Warming:

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A lively and sometimes scrappy debate on whether global warming is fueling bigger and nastier hurricanes like Katrina is adding an edge to a gathering of forecasters here.

The venue for the 88th annual meeting of the American Meteorological Society could not have been more conducive to the discussion: The Ernest N. Morial Convention Center is where thousands of people waited for days during the storm to be evacuated from a city drowning in water and misery.

'60 Minutes' Preempted This Sunday for Global Warming Hysteria | NewsBusters.org:
This teaser raises many important questions. For instance, will even one of the over 400 scientists that don't believe man is responsible for global warming be interviewed by Pelley? Or, will he exclusively talk to folks that are involved in advancing this yet unproven theory?

Will any of the scientific studies concerning historical ice levels in the Arctic and the Antarctic be sited, or just the satellite data for the past thirty years?

Assuming the top NASA scientist Pelley will be speaking to is the controversial head of the Goddard Institute for Space Studies James Hansen, will he be asked about his connection to George Soros? Or that the GISS predicted an ice age back in 1971? Or that Hansen's organization made a huge error in calculating temperatures this decade that was uncovered by Climate Audit's Stephen McIntyre?

More Hurricane Predictions

We’ve seen how these hurricane predictions have turned out over the past few years...not very good. They’re just like the overall climate predictions we’ve seen...full of crap.

MIAMI -- AccuWeather.com said Wednesday it expects five hurricanes to hit the U.S. coast in the 2010 Atlantic Hurricane season, which begins on the first day in June, Reuters reported.

The private weather forecaster predicts at least two of them will be major hurricanes.

"The forecast is calling for a much more active 2010 season with above-normal threats on the U.S. coastline," AccuWeather.com said, according to Reuters.

Ice between Canada and Greenland highest in 15 years!

GreenlandI can't stop laughing. It's really hilarious. This is in the news (coming from the source) but it's being summarily IGNORED. What's the matter AGW-psychos? Has your scam been exposed? Kudos to Newsbusters for the heads-up!

Kuldebreak i Vestgrønland:

The ice between Canada and southwestern Greenland has reached its highest level in 15 years.

Minus 30 degrees Celsius. That's how cold it's been in large parts of western Greenland where the population has been bundling up in hats and scarves. At the same time, Denmark's Meteorological Institute states that the ice between Canada and southwest Greenland right now has reached its greatest extent in 15 years.

You're asking, where's the AGW disclaimer? Hold on to your seats...I just fell off of mine laughing:
But how do these new reports fit in with continual reports that ice in the Arctic Ocean has been melting at a record rate due to increasing temperatures? And isn't global warming at the top of the political agenda these years?
But wait, I thought global warming had NOTHING TO DO WITH POLITICS? I THOUGHT IT WAS ALL SCIENCE!
[T]here is not anything inherently contradictory that extreme cold is replaced by higher temperatures than average. Or that melting sea ice occasionally is replaced by expanding ice sheets.

'Weather is a phenomenon which changes from year to year and right now the atmosphere has changed so we have cold weather. That will certainly mean that melting ice in the North Pole will be less this year, but next year the situation can look completely different,' according to Henriksen.

To sum things up, global warming hasn't been called off. In the meanwhile, western Greenlanders will have to accept that the cold weather continues for some time.

You have to understand that they can't let this go; too many professional reputations hang in the balance and too many gloom-and-doom news stories have been written to profess our coming peril. Notice when it's really cold, excessively snowy, or demonstrating some other empirical evidence that is antithetical to AGW, "the experts" say we're only in a temporary hiatus from global warming--it will PROBABLY be back next year. Meanwhile, if we have a severe tornado outbreak or a really bad hurricane, they IMMEDIATELY say it's proof of manmade climate change. Surely, the simplest of idiots can see through this hypocrisy and chicanery. If empirical evidence can mean one thing, surely the opposite of it can mean another!

Another Senator Steps In Pile of Poop

Here's another "brilliant" legislator showing why she should stick to things like screwing up health care. The whole hurricane-warming myth has even been debunked by NOAA and Dr. Gray, and all recent hurricane seasons have been weak while the predictions were dire.

Yet, these folks can't help but blame normal weather occurrences--even those that haven't manifested--on a lie, because propping up the myth will bear some benefit. This time it's not Gore or Kerry...it's Senator Debbie Stabenow (D., Mich.). She must be right, because she "feels it when she's flying." That's real science, folks.

Meanwhile, empirical evidence shows that Michigan--her home state--has had a record COLD July. She must not feel that because she's in D.C., surrounded by a bunch of hot air from her fellow global warming cult members.

"Climate change is very real," she confessed as she embraced cap and trade's massive tax increase on Michigan industry - at the same time claiming, against all the evidence, that it would not lead to an increase in manufacturing costs or energy prices. "Global warming creates volatility. I feel it when I'm flying. The storms are more volatile. We are paying the price in more hurricanes and tornadoes."

2010 Cyclone Season Marks 33-Year LOW

Ever since Katrina in 2005 (a devastating hurricane season for sure), climatologists and various authorities on tropical weather have predicted "stronger than average" hurricane seasons. While the Atlantic season did appear active this year, no major storms hit the United States, even though there have been no shortage of cyclonic doom predictions since Katrina.

AccuWeather predicted the United States would be hit by five named storms in 2010; it didn't happen. And AccuWeather is one of these groups that peddles global warming nonsense. Previous seasonal predictions since 2005 have also failed to materialize.

And the oft blamed culprit for these dire predictions that don't materialize? You guessed it: manmade global warming.

The only problem with these silly (failed) predictions is that Mother Nature didn't cooperate, once again proving that our climate is enormously complex and still capable of baffling the so-called smartest among us.

Update: Current Year-to-Date analysis of Northern Hemisphere and Global Tropical Cyclone Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE) AND Power Dissipation Index (PDI) has fallen even further than during the previous 3-years. The global inactivity is at 33-year lows and historical where Typhoons form in the Western Pacific.

While the North Atlantic has seen 15 tropical storms / hurricanes of various intensity, the Pacific basin as a whole is at historical lows! In the Western North Pacific stretching from Guam to Japan and the Philippines and China, the current ACE value of 48 is the lowest seen since reliable records became available (1945) and is 78% below normal*. The next lowest was an ACE of 78 in 1998. See figure below for visual evidence of the past 40-years of tropical cyclone activity.

Hurricane Irene: Harbinger of Climate Change?

Of course, we all KNOW the real answer to this idiot's question. The answer is no…so called global warming is not causing or strengthening tropical cyclones. It's utter bullshit. Even NOAA admits it. But we see this story repeated with nearly every tropical weather disturbance; global warming is attributed as the cause. The reality is far more benign than they would have you believe.

So why do liberal morons in the media continue the hype? Because they're trying to prop up the global warming myth--a myth which is reeling under its own ridiculous weight. It's the same reason they attribute NEARLY EVERYTHING deemed bad to global warming; for the government to be granted more control by its citizens, there must be a collective perception of some threat. It's as simple as that.

The scale of Hurricane Irene, which could cause more extensive damage along the Eastern Seaboard than any storm in decades, is reviving an old question: are hurricanes getting worse because of human-induced climate change?

The short answer from scientists is that they are still trying to figure it out. But many of them do believe that hurricanes will get more intense as the planet warms, and they see large hurricanes like Irene as a harbinger.

Hansen: Put oil execs on trial?!

Before I go any further, let me just say that I AM IN NO WAY AFFILIATED WITH ANY OIL INTERESTS. The only way I’m affiliated with “big oil” is as a consumer—and a pissed off one, but that’s only because of the outrageous gas prices that everyone else is suffering through.

The punk-ass, so-called “Doctor” James Hansen of NASA is at it again. Since he tries to play it off like he’s an unassailable government representative who simply cares about the common folk, please read through my previous post on this “illustrious giant of climate science.” Notice a common thread present in the challenges of all these fear-mongering “scientists.” They all want to shut down dissent and debate, and the reasoning for turning off debate is that “there’s no time left—we have to act now!” And they’re not at all interested in the increasing federal grants to study climate change—no! Why would they care about that?

They also consistently accuse every dissenter or denier (including credentialed, respected scientists) of being “in bed with big oil,” which is just laughable. There are literally THOUSANDS of scientists out there right now who think that all this manmade climate change junk is the stupidest crap they’ve ever heard, but they’re keeping quiet because of creeps like Hansen, Gore, and Cullen. Similar to Hansen, Heidi Cullen of the Weather Channel (whose founder—John Coleman—feels global warming is utter baloney and a sham) says that all non-believing meteorologists should lose their professional credentials. Here we see that Hansen wants non-believers put on trial. Other liberal believers simply want conservative climate realists to die. Scientists who speak up are being ignored or ridiculed. It’s Galileo all over again.

Look people, even the founder of Greenpeace believes THERE IS NO MANMADE WARMING!!!

But these alarmo-fascists still believe in their pipe-dream, even though the temperatures have not risen along with CO2 levels in 10-years (if you accept their temperature baseline), and that’s with ever-increasing CO2 levels. Also, CO2 (even in its present amounts) is a minor greenhouse gas compared to the volume of water and methane in our atmosphere. The bottom line is that manmade global warming is a farce; it is a lie. This past record-setting cold, snowy, icy winter is empirical evidence that mirrors the scientific data out there; I can site empirical evidence, because the alarmists certainly do whenever there’s a summer heat wave, drought, flood, hurricane, tornado, or other natural disaster. Their partners in the media also quickly highlight ridiculous numbers of things attributed to global warming, and those incalculable stories alone are probably responsible for making a mockery of their climate cause. In short, me thinks they protest too much!

I love how they’re now saying that 10-years of cooling (from La Nina) will mask global warming! LOL! These guys all know the myth is drying up; people aren’t buying it, especially in the U.K. Alarmists and climate profiteers are panicking because we aren’t all running around like Chicken Little.

Yes, this is supposedly America—the land of freedom (including freedom of speech); you can only speak freely, however, if you agree to speak their propaganda. Otherwise, you must hush your mouth and march in lock-step, you pathetic sheep.

Put oil firm chiefs on trial, says leading climate change scientist | Guardian:

James Hansen, one of the world's leading climate scientists, will today call for the chief executives of large fossil fuel companies to be put on trial for high crimes against humanity and nature, accusing them of actively spreading doubt about global warming in the same way that tobacco companies blurred the links between smoking and cancer.

He is also considering personally targeting members of Congress who have a poor track record on climate change in the coming November elections. He will campaign to have several of them unseated. Hansen's speech to Congress on June 23 1988 is seen as a seminal moment in bringing the threat of global warming to the public's attention. At a time when most scientists were still hesitant to speak out, he said the evidence of the greenhouse gas effect was 99% certain, adding "it is time to stop waffling".

Cyclone Activity at 30-year Low: Revisionist Excuse

So much for Al Gore's stupid-assed proselytizing. Even the esteemed Dr. Gray has been getting it wrong (see how predictions about weather and climate go?). But this is from FSU, so there's, of course, the obligatory climate revisionism (it's not a lack of global warming folks...it's that the warming is being 'masked' by La Nina). LOL!

Global temps to DECREASE??!!

Earth La Nina is believed by some to have caused this year’s drastic cooling, but this also means one must accept that 1998’s considerable warming (baseline assumed correct) was artificially spiked by El Nino (not AGW). I’m personally not convinced by either “La Nina” or “El Nino.” These unruly siblings of Pacific water temperature antagonism have almost become revisionist excuses to backtrack on failed climate and weather predictions, like the recent “awful hurricane seasons” that failed to materialize (i.e., global warming is being offset by La Nina, and thus, weaker hurricanes). And let’s not forget the failed prediction about the temperature this winter (it was going to be REALLY WARM), remember? And if 1998 has been the warmest, why didn’t we have the “worst” hurricanes that year (instead of the horrible 2005)?

Okay, so they’re reluctantly admitting that global warming ended 10 YEARS AGO! Are you zombie-sheep out there getting that message, which certain groups (media, political elements, scientists with agendas, etc.) are trying desperately to frame in antithetical verbiage (such as espoused throughout most of the article below) that holds on to the global warming farce?

Now, here in this article is another prediction from a so-called “expert.” His prediction is that after La Nina is over, our global temperature will rise back up and surpass 1998’s high; again, that’s if you believe the baseline that marks 1998 as the year containing the highest global mean temperature. So, let’s keep this prediction in mind as we watch time go by. What will you believers do when this prediction fails as so many others have?

Will it be like Al Gore’s prediction that we’re doomed within 10 years due to AGW (prediction issued in January 2006)? Will it be like any of the countless other doomsday predictions, or even the recent one from the British Chicken Little? Will it be like the prediction that (after Katrina) we were going to have stronger and stronger cyclones due to global warming (which didn’t happen and has sense been discounted)?

Or could it be that all this global warming nonsense has been taking us all for a giant BS ride? Time and truth will cast their verdict. I believe they have already cast their verdict. The temperature HAS NOT surpassed the so-called “high” of 1998 in 10 years; this past year we had a record-shattering winter season, and global temperatures plummeted well below the mean (again, if you believe their baseline—which they just want us to blindly accept as completely unflawed).

And these two articles below are very strange, because just recently we saw this.

BBC NEWS | Science/Nature | Global temperatures 'to decrease':

This would mean that temperatures have not risen globally since 1998 when El Nino warmed the world.

A minority of scientists question whether this means global warming has peaked and argue the Earth has proved more resilient to greenhouse gases than predicted.

But Mr Jarraud insisted this was not the case and noted that 2008 temperatures would still be well above average for the century.

"When you look at climate change you should not look at any particular year," he said. "You should look at trends over a pretty long period and the trend of temperature globally is still very much indicative of warming.

Mr Scaife told the BBC: "What's happened now is that La Nina has come along and depressed temperatures slightly but these changes are very small compared to the long-term climate change signal, and in a few years time we are confident that the current record temperature of 1998 will be beaten when the La Nina has ended."

FOXNews.com - U.N. Forecasters: Global Temperatures to Decrease - Science News | Science & Technology | Technology News:
The World Meteorological Organisation's secretary-general, Michel Jarraud, said it was likely that La Nina, an abnormal cooling of sea surface temperatures in the Pacific Ocean, would continue into the summer.

If the forecast holds true, global temperatures will not have risen since 1998, prompting some to question climate change theory.

GASP!: Everything is spinning out of control!

Chicken-LittleOh, my word! Chicken Little screams, "THE SKY IS FALLING! THE SKY IS FALLING!" Give me a break!

The Associated Press has managed to publish the ultimate portent of doom. And of course, they've managed to work in global warming in a plethora of creative ways. Just see my highlights and links in their article below to see how far the fear-mongering press has come in programming you to BE AFRAID.

Be afraid...be VERY AFRAID! Make AP happy. Read other posts in the GASP! series and witness the media's fear-based approach to get you fired up about the global warming cult.

Everything seemingly is spinning out of control | AP:

Is everything spinning out of control? Midwestern levees are bursting. Polar bears are adrift. Gas prices are skyrocketing. Home values are abysmal. Air fares, college tuition and health care border on unaffordable. Wars without end rage in Iraq, Afghanistan and against terrorism.

***

Floods engulf Midwestern river towns. Is it global warming, the gradual degradation of a planet's weather that man seems powerless to stop or just a freakish late-spring deluge?

It hardly matters to those in the path. Just ask the people of New Orleans who survived Hurricane Katrina. They are living in a city where, 1,000 days after the storm, entire neighborhoods remain abandoned, a national embarrassment that evokes disbelief from visitors.

Food is becoming scarcer and more expensive on a worldwide scale, due to increased consumption in growing countries such as China and India and rising fuel costs. That can-do solution to energy needs — turning corn into fuel — is sapping fields of plenty once devoted to crops that people need to eat. Shortages have sparked riots. In the U.S., rice prices tripled and some stores rationed the staple.

Residents of the nation's capital and its suburbs repeatedly lose power for extended periods as mere thunderstorms rumble through. In California, leaders warn people to use less water in the unrelenting drought.

Anchorage: "Coldest Summer EVER"

Wait, I thought Alaska was just experiencing a "normal cool" summer?

First, we were promised a warm winter at the hands of global warming. It didn't happen; as a matter of fact, the opposite happened. Then we were told that global warming would rush spring, the west was warming too fast, and that the cold spell we've been experiencing was merely "brief" and would soon be replaced by more warming. Poof! Like a dissipating CO2 cloud, these predictions vanished into thin air after an antithetical reality set in. Alarmist climatologists, however, held on to hope that they could recover their rapidly shrinking reputations.

Other former alarmist scientists have COMPLETELY REVERSED THEIR ONCE FIERY BELIEFS, and now they face the same persecution that they once doled out to their braver colleagues, who courageously stood up, cried foul, and were lambasted for it (and still are).

Some climatologists, however, saw the writing on the wall and tried to issue revisionist predictions on the climate (La Nina would now "mask" global warming for 10-20 years, LOL!). This was all done in an attempt to save face, protect reputations, and institute damage control, while still keeping the pipe-dream of CO2-induced warming alive.

Even this article below engages in all sorts of damage control (I've bolded those portions)! We see “La Nina” below, as well as the oft-sited “IPCC.” This is what alarmists do to keep the AGW fart aloft; they throw around "PC" words (“IPCC” and “consensus”) that are designed to explain-away contrary empirical and scientific evidence and silence legitimate debate and criticism. They even attempt to hold on to the already thoroughly debunked "stronger hurricane" theory that Al Gore loves so much.

Many of the original IPCC member scientists are actually skeptics and have denounced the IPCC’s reports, and there’s NO SUCH RULE THAT A "CONSENSUS" IN SCIENCE IS DEEMED UNASSAILABLE (real science has nothing to do with any consensus). Don’t believe that maverick thinkers are usually proven correct in science? What about Einstein, Darwin, Hawking, Newton, Galileo, Copernicus, and the list goes on? These are all scientists who bucked the consensus of their day.

Other former alarmist scientists have COMPLETELY REVERSED THEIR ONCE FIERY BELIEFS, and now they face the same persecution that they once doled out to their braver colleagues, who courageously stood up, cried foul, and were lambasted for it (and still are).

And so we see that this summer is continuing the COOLING TREND we've seen over the past 10 years, which means global warming IS NOT OCCURRING AND HAS NOT OCCURRED, especially as a result of CO2 (CO2 has gone up while temperatures have gone down).

What is clear is that the Earth warms and cools within the bounds of natural climate cycles THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH ARROGANT HUMANS who think they can somehow affect this overwhelmingly powerful planet. We are nothing to this planet except another insignificant species. Even if we destroyed ourselves with every last nuclear weapon on Earth, the Earth would eventually recover and life would go on (our Earth's archeological record has shown this to occur many times naturally).

Gloomy summer headed toward infamy

CHILLY: Anchorage could hit 65 degrees for fewest days on record.

The coldest summer ever? You might be looking at it, weather folks say.

Right now the so-called summer of '08 is on pace to produce the fewest days ever recorded in which the temperature in Anchorage managed to reach 65 degrees.

That unhappy record was set in 1970, when we only made it to the 65-degree mark, which many Alaskans consider a nice temperature, 16 days out of 365.

This year, however -- with the summer more than half over -- there have been only seven 65-degree days so far. And that's with just a month of potential "balmy" days remaining and the forecast looking gloomy.

****

So are all bets off on global warming? Hardly, scientists say. Climate change is a function of long-term trends, not single summers or individual hurricanes.

Last year the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change concluded that it's "unequivocal" the world is warming, considering how 11 of the warmest years on record have occurred in the past 13 years.

So what's going on in Alaska, which also posted a fairly frigid winter?

It's the Sun, Stupid (again)

You needn't be a climatologist to understand the statistical problems with manmade global warming theory. To say the last 200 years are the warmest in Earth's history (or equally disturbing assertions such as this decade is the warmest ever--laughable), it means you have to accept THEIR baseline--the level or range considered to be 'normal' that can then be used to show dramatic shifts--either up or down--in the data. Remember, the Earth is 4.5 billion years old, and humans have existed for a "gnat's length" comparatively. The Industrial Revolution--the genesis of the blame period that lasts until present day--was just about 200 years ago.

Finally, to acquire the baseline of normalcy, data (of which 150 years worth has now been deleted by the CRU at East Anglia) must be manipulated to account for numerous variables. So, they take 30 years of satellite observations, tree ring data, current day temperatures, and so on (each with their own potential measurement problems or SOURCES OF ERROR) and use computer models to produce the baseline of 200 years through which they claim to show we humans, through our modern ways, are heating the Earth to the breaking point. Never mind that they can IN NO WAY account for all the variables in the complex climate system. We can't even do it now with 100% certainty when predicting a hurricane's landfall point; we can only supply a probable range. We can't even accurately predict weather five days out, even with our technology and arrogant so-called 'brainpower.'

But the climate alarmist-scientist establishment doesn't want you to remember the Medieval Warm Period. They once produced graphs for the IPCC that omitted this period and tried to dream of ways to extricate it from history. You see...the Medieval Warm Period, where life really prospered before the follow-on mini ice age, is an INCOVENIENT TRUTH to climate alarmists.

The Sun. We are currently in a cooling trend on Earth that is measurable. The Sun, consequently, has some of the lowest measureable activity in recent history. Coincidence? That's hard to swallow.

The paper highlights a few scientists, including Professor Henrik Svensmark, a physicist at the Danish National Space Center in Copenhagen, who said the recent warming period was caused by solar activity.

Svensmark said that the last time the world experienced such high temperatures, during the medieval warming period, the Sun and the Earth were in a similar cycle.

Professor Nils-Axel Morner, a geologist from Stockholm University, said sea-level rise has also been exaggerated by the "climate alarmists" using computer models.

He said observational data from lake sediments, coast lines and trees show sea levels have remained stable.
