FORT KENT, Maine — An arctic blast from Canada is bringing brutally frigid air and wind chills expected to dip to 50 below zero to northern New England, prompting officials to warn residents to take precautions against the cold.

The National Weather Service in Caribou issued a statewide wind chill warning Sunday night effective through Monday.

Bitterly cold air will remain over northern Maine through Monday night, forcing temperatures down below zero with negative double-digit wind chill values.

Ten Ships Trapped in Arctic Sea Ice

Oh yeah...that arctic sea ice certainly is disappearing at an alarming rate. Tell that to these poor souls.

Rescue efforts are under way to evacuate more than 600 crew on 10 ships trapped in ice in the Sea of Okhotsk.

The ice is up to 30cm (12 inches) thick in some places, according to the Russian news agency Itar-Tass.

Signals are reported to have been received from a fishing boat and a research vessel which are in the greatest distress, stuck in the ice about 12 miles (19km) from the coast.

The sea rescue centre says three tugboats have been dispatched.

Worldwide Record COLD Frustrates Alarmists

It's really tough for alarmists to convince the sheep that the earth is heating up when the prevailing weather continues, year after year, to freeze our asses off. They stick to saying that arctic ice and glaciers are melting, but it sure isn't melting WHERE PEOPLE LIVE and can observe with their own senses. Empirical evidence, experienced firsthand, is hard to ignore.

(NECN: Burlington, Vt.) - A record amount of snow fell in Burlington from the weekend storm that left a coat of varying depth across the region.

In South Burlington, 33 inches fell -- an all-time record for one storm.

The previous record was a Christmas snowstorm in 1969, which left close to 30 inches over a three-day period.

These days it feels like Mother Nature is a disc jockey playing cheesy music at a wedding dance with the record stuck on "Limbo," as in: "How low can you go?"

Answer: Near-record low.

Thermometers across Iowa dipped into the negative double digits. And this intense cold probably isn't going anywhere until next weekend.

Temperatures stayed below zero for much of Saturday. Des Moines was at minus-1 by 3 p.m.

A FREEZING cold front swept over much of northern China on Sunday with snowstorms snarling traffic and air travel, while some of the coldest temperatures in decades were forecast for coming days.

Jan. 4 (Bloomberg) -- Cold, windy weather enveloping the U.S. from the northern Plains to the East Coast may continue to break temperature records today. In south Florida, orange growers may escape most crop damage.

The National Weather Service issued hard-freeze warnings for last night and this morning for southern Alabama and Georgia and the northern part of Florida, including the panhandle. Such warnings alert growers of temperatures that may fall below 32 degrees Fahrenheit (zero Celsius) for more than three consecutive hours.

Gore Admits North Pole Faux Pas

First, this is why Al Gore won't debate anyone. He knows he's pulling BS out of his butt and putting it out there as unassailable science. Down with this moron already and his alarmist accomplices. Here, Gore is taking a global warming scientist--one of the people he's counting on to save his ass--and ascribing assertions to the scientist that the scientist claims he never made. Gore is throwing one of his own under the bus just to pump up his already huge ego; this is why he turns off microphones when challenged on his stupid Power Point shows.

Second, the climate alarmists concluded in 2008 that the North Pole would melt completely IN THE SUMMER OF 2008. Guess what? IT NEVER HAPPENED. Another example of our media dropping the ball and avoiding the hard questions and EVEN HARDER follow up, after these stupid predictions don't happen. Even if it did, the Earth's sea levels WOULD NOT RISE. This is based on basic scientific knowledge--the Archimedes Principle.

Oh, and what news organization reported this? The U.K. press! Once again, they're carrying the banner where our liberal media falters.

However, the climatologist whose work Mr Gore was relying upon dropped the former Vice-President in the water with an icy blast.

“It’s unclear to me how this figure was arrived at,” Dr Maslowski said. “I would never try to estimate likelihood at anything as exact as this.”

Mr Gore’s office later admitted that the 75 per cent figure was one used by Dr Maslowksi as a “ballpark figure” several years ago in a conversation with Mr Gore.

GASP!: Repeat Story...Arctic Ice-free in Summer?

Global warming believers: Remember this prediction that never happened?

There's a liberal echo in here. These dufuses continue to trumpet the same crap stories, over and over. The nearly identical articles appear every few months as if they're new; the goal is obvious--repeat the scary predictions until they become the mantra of sheep. I've written about this melting-ice-doom subject several times on the blog (see stories on "melting ice," "new ice," and "predictions").

I just keep wondering HOW LONG it's going to take for the victim believers in this global warming scam to realize they've been had by the circus sideshow. I mean...most predictions (except for Prince Charles' really moronic ones) have our doom placed at 20-100 years away (when most of us will have forgotten or will be dead). If one predicts doom 100 years into the future, it's a fairly safe prediction, because the "prophet" will be dead and most likely anyone who would have remembered the ERRONEOUS prediction.

The pattern is that the media alternates talking about Greenland's melting ice sheet (which IS NOT melting), the Arctic, the Antarctic, and glaciers. If they repeat this ice-melt tripe enough, they figure you'll give in and think you've always known this hogwash to be true.

Now, I'll repeat my prediction, since they KEEP REPEATING theirs. NOTHING WILL HAPPEN TO U.S. CITIES IF WE DO NOTHING! Case closed. There is ZERO global warming happening as a result of increased CO2.

Greenland ice could fuel severe U.S. sea level rise

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - New York, Boston and other cities on North America's northeast coast could face a rise in sea level this century that would exceed forecasts for the rest of the planet if Greenland's ice sheet keeps melting as fast as it is now, researchers said on Wednesday.

Sea levels off the northeast coast of North America could rise by 12 to 20 inches more than other coastal areas if the Greenland glacier-melt continues to accelerate at its present pace, the researchers reported.

Obama May Block Sun's Rays to End Global Warming

WASHINGTON — The president's new science adviser said Wednesday that global warming is so dire, the Obama administration is discussing radical technologies to cool Earth's air.

John Holdren told The Associated Press in his first interview since being confirmed last month that the idea of geoengineering the climate is being discussed.

One such extreme option includes shooting pollution particles into the upper atmosphere to reflect the sun's rays. Holdren said such an experimental measure would only be used as a last resort.

"It's got to be looked at," he said. "We don't have the luxury of taking any approach off the table."

Holdren outlined several "tipping points" involving global warming that could be fast approaching.

Once such milestones are reached, such as complete loss of summer sea ice in the Arctic, it increases chances of "really intolerable consequences," he said.

Especially Thin Ice This Spring? What About Last?

Coincidentally, we saw similar fear stories last spring. Are they different? Not really? They're all wrong. Predictions of doom failed to appear as forecast last year too. This one is a variation on last year's story about 'new' ice versus 'old' ice.

No matter the good news, the alarmist scientists have a way of twisting empirical data to their ends.

First, this story is from AP, which is famous for its global warming fear pieces. Second, notice that they’re saying that ice is melting faster now and will be worse than expected because ‘COMPLEX COMPUTER MODELS OF WEATHER AND CLIMATE’ said so. When the investigator has preconceived conclusions about climate and humankind’s affect on it, any computer model that investigator designs will be compromised, and only data that seems to support a conclusion will be considered. No investigator, thus far, has gone to the Arctic to DISPROVE global warming! They all go to verify it exists; as a result, they find that for which they’re looking.

No computer model, however complex one designs it, can ever account for the complexity of nature—with incalculable variables--many unknown or unconsidered--of every description. Just look at Dr. Hansen’s own errors to see how easy it is to skew collected data towards one’s own opinions; warmaholics don’t like being shown the errors of their ways.

There’s one good thing about the modification of this prediction. Many of us will still be around to realize how wrong they were. One need not wait until then, however. There are already many examples of failed prophecy with regard to global warming catastrophes.

Of course, I predict that global warming will be a long forgotten fad in 30 years; it will waft and linger in our collective consciousness only if we allow politicians to utterly destroy our economic health for the sake of a lie.

Study: Arctic Sea Ice Melting Faster Than Anticipated

Arctic sea ice is melting so fast most of it could be gone in 30 years. A new analysis of changing conditions in the region, using complex computer models of weather and climate, says conditions that had been forecast by the end of the century could occur much sooner.

A change in the amount of ice is important because the white surface reflects sunlight back into space. When ice is replaced by dark ocean water that sunlight can be absorbed, warming the water and increasing the warming of the planet.

This article takes a different tact, distancing itself from descriptions of melting polar ice, icebergs, and glaciers, where in the past these immersed icy bodies have been erroneously described as dangerous, if warming were to melt them, raise sea levels, and cause floods (see Archimedes Principle). The writer makes sure to mention only Greenland this time--"melting LAND ice."

The problem is what we saw in previous articles--Greenland's ice sheet IS NOT MELTING. Neither is the North Pole, which had been predicted to completely dissolve last summer (and DID NOT melt).

Warming to make N.Y. vulnerable to storms-study

NEW YORK, March 15 (Reuters) - Global warming should lift sea levels along the U.S. Northeast nearly twice as fast as global rates this century, putting New York City at risk to damage from hurricanes and winter storm surges, scientists said.

"The northeast coast of the United States is among the most vulnerable regions to future changes in sea level and ocean circulation, especially when considering its population density," said Jianjun Yin, a climate modeler at Florida State University.

If ice is already displacing water, it cannot and will not raise water levels if it melts. You can do this experiment in your home with a dish, some water, and some ice.

Actually, if increasing heat were causing all that ice to melt, the increasing heat would also be causing increased evaporation, and I hypothesize that sea levels WOULD ACTUALLY GO DOWN…NOT UP!

Therefore, if you still believe the thrust of this fear-provoking article below (or any of the thousands written on melting ice caused by global warming that have been written over the past several years with the intention of scaring you to death), you are a complete, utter moron.

Scientists Warn of Catastrophic Sea Level Rise

COPENHAGEN — Top climate scientists warned Tuesday that sea levels could rise twice as much as previously projected as they presented the latest research on global warming.

A 2007 report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change predicted a sea level rise of 7 to 23 inches by the end of the century.

But scientists meeting in Copenhagen dismissed those estimates as too conservative, saying new data suggests that sea level rise could exceed 39 inches and is unlikely to be less than 20 inches.

"This means that if the emissions of greenhouse gases is not reduced quickly and substantially even the best-case scenario will hit low-lying coastal areas housing one-tenth of humans on the planet hard," organizers said in a statement at the three-day congress hosted by the University of Copenhagen.

The melting of polar ice sheets and of glaciers are two big factors that will affect sea levels, they added.

This is pretty funny. Are you beginning to get the picture now, enviro-freaks? You’ve worked yourself into a frenzy over melting ice for nothing. Arctic Sea Ice Underestimated for Weeks Due to Faulty Sensor

Feb. 20 (Bloomberg) -- A glitch in satellite sensors caused scientists to underestimate the extent of Arctic sea ice by 500,000 square kilometers (193,000 square miles), a California- size area, the U.S. National Snow and Ice Data Center said.

The error, due to a problem called “sensor drift,” began in early January and caused a slowly growing underestimation of sea ice extent until mid-February. That’s when “puzzled readers” alerted the NSIDC about data showing ice-covered areas as stretches of open ocean, the Boulder, Colorado-based group said on its Web site.

“Sensor drift, although infrequent, does occasionally occur and it is one of the things that we account for during quality- control measures prior to archiving the data,” the center said. “Although we believe that data prior to early January are reliable, we will conduct a full quality check.’’

Amid record cold, U.N. uses 'long-term' mantra

I've already mentioned that there are two different realities going on with respect to the climate. There's the one we're all experiencing--replete with cold, snow, ice, cool summers, etc.--and then there's the one with which the "experts" keep scaring us to death--ice is melting, Earth is warming, we're all doomed...doOMED...DOOMED!

Apart from the ice-melt scare tactic, which I've written about many times in the GASP! series and in other posts on this blog, alarmists have another trick that they're using to convince you we're still warming amidst all the cold--"long term trends," which I've also blogged about on here.

The problem with their "long term trend" is academic--it's a statistical faux pas that they're refusing to adequately describe for the layman masses. In short, they're using statistics (that any decent scientist would reject) to paint a supporting picture, and this phenomenon is something that is NOT new to science. Crooked and mistaken scientists and researchers have used data unscrupulously for decades (about as long as the "long term trend.").

"What is happening in the Arctic is one of the key indicators of global warming," Michel Jarraud, Secretary General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), said. "The overall trend is still upwards."

Russians evacuate melting ice chunk

Talk about a far-reaching claim! These guys decided to pitch a tent on a floating chunk of ice in September of last year (as we started to have that record cold season we weren't supposed to have), and now they’re surprised the ice chunk is melting in the midst of summer? Notice that they were going to evacuate it anyway. Why? Because IT WAS GOING TO MELT ANYWAY! Very deceptive, these alarmist-advocates.

That last sentence is just retarded. I don’t know how these morons transcend the considerable gulf between “melting ice in July” and “global warming.” Yes, warmth melts ice, but relative warmth is normal in the Arctic at this time of year. Therefore, more warmth equals less ice. Duh! The question: is CO2 causing the warming that's melting the ice? No. The summer is causing the warming that's melting the ice!

I predicted that the alarmists would take the normal heat of summer and turn it into the global warming boogeyman; it’s opportunism at its finest. It’s easier for the advocates to convince the sheep that there’s manmade global warming when it’s actually warm outside due to summer...especially when ice melts.

Scientists Evacuate Research Station Built on Ice Due to Global Warming

MOSCOW — Russian scientists are evacuating a research station built on an Arctic ice floe because global warming has melted the ice to a fraction of its original size, a spokesman said.

The North Pole-35 station, where 21 researchers and two dogs live in huts, will be taken off the floe in the western Arctic Ocean this week instead of in late August as originally planned, said Sergei Balyasnikov of the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute in St. Petersburg.

The research crew landed in early September on the 1.2- by 2.5-mile floe near the Severnaya Zemlya archipelago. During its westward drift of more than 1,550 miles, the floe shrank to just 1,000 by 2,000 feet.

"The evacuation is ahead of schedule because of global warming," Balyasnikov said.

GASP! Swim to the North Pole this summer!

I’m wondering if any of the sheep out there are digging into the guts of this article and exposing the stupidity of it, instead of just accepting the media’s incessant Chicken Little routine. When I first saw this article, I said, “really?” Then as I began to read it, I realized it was more of the same drivel we’ve been seeing for years on "manmade" climate change, though the hysteria level is definitely being stretched to new heights.

First of all, melting ice? I’ve covered that subject here on quite a few occasions.

Why are the histrionics of alarmists reaching epic proportions? Because they’re losing the programming battle. The battle to indoctrinate the masses into believing there’s manmade global warming is becoming Custer’s fiasco at Little Big Horn, and deniers like me are the stubborn Native Americans. So the claims become more and more shrill and preposterous as time goes by. Also, look at where this newspaper is published; it’s in the U.K., and a recent poll showed just what Britons are thinking about the scam of global warming. So, the headline is designed to jolt us deniers and embolden the alarmists into screaming, “See, I told you so.” But let’s go further and fight hyperbole with cold logic.

Never mind the wheezing headline, which is so very misleading. Check the VERY FIRST SENTENCE in the article. Ice is melting at the North Pole for “THE FIRST TIME IN HUMAN HISTORY?” Really? I wonder if any layman out there can find the huge problem with this first claim before I even pour out my thoughts. If one examines the article and reads my past posts here on melting ice then one can see some of the issues, and you needn’t be a climatologist or scientist to understand. Any time a ridiculous claim like this is made by someone, one should always first ask, “What is the baseline?” By that I mean that there must be some standard or starting point by which they’re making a comparison. Statistically, there should be an average or mean level of ice over a given period, and the longer the period used for the baseline, the more accurate the assertion will be once a comparison is made. They’ve been visually “measuring” the ice at the poles since we’ve had satellites, which, as you know, have been in stationary orbit above the poles since Lucy first learned to walk upright (yes, mockery definitely intended). I posted already on the statistical stupidity of taking a 30-year period of the Earth’s 4.5 billion year history as a baseline and making stupid climate pronouncements based on that VERY, VERY SMALL period of time. Heck, it would still be a stupid comparison if we used only the years comprising human history (from the Paleolithic – 2.5 million years ago), which is a brief moment in the Earth’s total history. Using a 30-year period as a baseline would be a statistical no-no to any real scientist or statistician, unless those professionals need to KEEP the $1.7B in federal climate research grants coming in! My assertion is that polar ice has melted and reformed at least thousands of times in the history of the Earth, and I mean FAR BEFORE the Industrial Revolution.

Next, when you picture all the ice at the North Pole melting (which is implied by this article’s headline), what do you think? They did use the word “entirely,” which I take to mean ALL OF IT. I pictured that you could swim or boat literally up to the very pole—the very top of the Earth and grin up at the North Star. Or do they just mean melting in that general vicinity? Check the graphic and notice how they say that “melting ice COULD match last year’s record.” Monkeys COULD also fly out of my butt. The word "could" in these fear-mongering articles should always set off an alarm in your brain, because it also implies that it "could not" happen. Again, review some of the failed predictions on climate change we've had recently, including the dire hurricane forecasts that have failed to transpire, even though Al Gore predicted that Hurricane Katrina was directly caused by global warming; if we're still warming...where have all the hurricanes been over the past three years? Oh, I know...cyclones and hurricanes have been hitting other continents--JUST AS THEY ALWAYS HAVE!

They let slip another fact. All the ice that they alarmingly reported in previous years as having melted REFORMED LAST YEAR DURING A RECORD-SETTING WINTER! I think the reasoning is that because it’s “new ice” it will melt faster in the summer than “old ice.” So this is another “scary” prediction on climate change, and we’ve seen a lot of those predictions over the past year—most of which turned out to be CRAP! I’m now making a prediction...many or most of these manmade climate change predictions WILL ALSO TURN OUT TO BE CRAP. Let’s see what happens to the polar ice at the end of this summer and then what happens next winter, when some climatologists say the Earth will be very cold due to the masking of global warming by La Nina (another farcical assertion). Remember Galileo's opponents! They devised elaborate models to explain the movements of the heavens to counter the "denier's" theory that the Sun was the center of the known universe...not the Earth. Was the maverick correct, or was the consensus?

So, let’s say that the ice is going to melt all the way up to the North Pole at 90 degrees North latitude. Can we really say it’s the FIRST TIME EVER IN HUMAN HISTORY or that it’s even a bad thing if it does happen? Remember the Little Climate Optimum—an inconvenient truth that alarmists want you to forget. Our vast history is littered with climate changes and shifts, and all of them came BEFORE THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION.

Exclusive: No ice at the North Pole | Independent

It seems unthinkable, but for the first time in human history, ice is on course to disappear entirely from the North Pole this year.

The disappearance of the Arctic sea ice, making it possible to reach the Pole sailing in a boat through open water, would be one of the most dramatic – and worrying – examples of the impact of global warming on the planet. Scientists say the ice at 90 degrees north may well have melted away by the summer.

"From the viewpoint of science, the North Pole is just another point on the globe, but symbolically it is hugely important. There is supposed to be ice at the North Pole, not open water," said Mark Serreze of the US National Snow and Ice Data Centre in Colorado.

If it happens, it raises the prospect of the Arctic nations being able to exploit the valuable oil and mineral deposits below these a bed which have until now been impossible to extract because of the thick sea ice above.

Seasoned polar scientists believe the chances of a totally ice-free North Pole this summer are greater than 50:50 because the normally thick ice formed over many years at the Pole has been blown away and replaced by huge swathes of thinner ice formed over a single year.

This one-year ice is highly vulnerable to melting during the summer months and satellite data coming in over recent weeks shows that the rate of melting is faster than last year, when there was an all-time record loss of summer sea ice at the Arctic.

GASP!: Kiribati doomed by climate change?

This story is so easy to poke holes in that it's like taking candy from a baby. Kiribati is an atoll, which if you are unaware is a volcanically-engineered islet that has basically been been built up by coral reef formation; it is not a classic island or land mass, like Japan for example.

Kiribati is not the only atoll in existence, and it is definitely not the only island or ocean-surrounded land mass in existence. If global warming-induced water rise is flooding it, what about the other surrounding atolls in the Pacific (and elsewhere)? Are they flooding and disappearing? Are other worldwide coastal areas flooding at the same rate?

Since this atoll is in the Pacific (where La Nina is currently driving global cooling for 10 years - ahem), and since this past record cold winter cooled the global mean temperature 0.7 degrees, why is Kiribati still flooding? If we're going to cool for 10 years (because of La Nina's "masking effect" on global warming), won't all rising water reverse for at least a decade?

I'm not denying that certain coastal areas erode or flood (look at New Orleans--a problem since its beginning). What about Venice? We know that we have flooded coastal areas, because we've seen the archaeological evidence. So is that a normal consequence of NORMAL climate change, or is human intervention speeding these processes? I assert that humans ARE NOT WARMING THE EARTH AND MELTING MORE POLAR ICE. CO2, even in increasing concentrations because of emissions, remains a MINOR GREENHOUSE GAS compared to H2O and methane.

AFP: Kiribati likely doomed by climate change: president:

WELLINGTON (AFP) — The president of the low-lying Pacific atoll nation of Kiribati said Thursday his country may already be doomed because of climate change.

"Where they have been living over the past few decades is no longer there, it is being eroded."

"At two degrees of global warming we are already destroying the places that people have called their homes for hundreds, sometimes thousands of years," he added.

The focus of attempts to reach a global deal to replace the Kyoto plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions moved to Bonn, Germany, this week where 2,400 negotiators are trying to hammer out an agreement to be signed by the end of next year.

Steiner said governments and individuals should not ignore climate change because of current crises over soaring food and oil prices.

Ice melting fast--sound familiar?

So this story appears again and again, almost month after month, like some demented mantra the media must chant to convince you of impending doom.

Please note something important they give away in the beginning of the article, figuring you’re too dumb to see the importance of it. Satellite Arctic ice measurements started in 1978! That’s 30 freakin’ years ago, folks! Now, get out your calculator and divide 4.5 Billion (Earth’s estimated age) by 30—the number of years they’ve apparently measured Arctic ice accurately (assuming they look at it on some semi-regular, recurring basis). You’re left with the number of years that they HAVE NOT MEASURED THE ICE: 150,000,000 separate periods of 30 years. Do you realize what a statistically flawed sample that is?
They haven’t accounted for 4,499,999,970 years at the North Pole!! And how often are they taking measurements? Each decade? Weekly? Monthly? Yearly? And didn’t they first start measuring the ice because it was presumed Arctic ice was GROWING in the 1970s, when Newsweek and other rags proclaimed we were threatened with a new “ice age”? If it GREW then (during a coming “ice age”) any retreat over the past 3 decades could just be a leveling-off or a return closer to a true baseline. Please don’t be a dolt, and don’t fall for these continual, unrelenting scare tactics.
