Obama Caught in Record Winter Storm

Another record-breaking winter (the last several winters have been extremely cold, icy, snowy, miserable, and deadly). These winters have followed cool summers too, though you'll always find a news story proclaiming whatever year it is to be 'the hottest ever.' Yet, the liberal indoctrinators continue the hue and cry about climate "denialists," even after numerous climatology scandals and empirical evidence surface to demonstrate the complete, utter failure and dishonesty of manmade global warming theory and its proponents. The boondoggle has been exposed long ago.

Of course, the global warming alarmists, the faithful, and the zealots will continue to say that the record cold PROVES global warming is real. Just like record heat PROVES global warming. Record ANYTHING to them PROVES global warming. It’s all bullshit. Empirical data proves nothing except that this is one muddy picture, and that’s just the way alarmists like it. The easier it is to snow (no pun intended) the more intellectually challenged among us, the easier for them to consolidate social and political controls to reshape society in the way they deem “Earth friendly.” Capitalism is rejected and socialism is embraced in a clandestine way.

New York City and Philadelphia are just two of the communities across the mid-Atlantic that broke daily snowfall records on Wednesday. For a more elite group that includes New York City, this month is now the snowiest January in history.

With the disruptive storm over, final snow tallies exceed a foot throughout the corridor from Philadelphia to New York City.

WASHINGTON – Heavy snow and icy roads Wednesday night created hazardous condition for President Barack Obama as he returned to the White House from a trip to Wisconsin.
The wintry weather grounded Marine One, the helicopter that typically transports Obama to and from the military base where Air Force One lands. Instead, a motorcade met Obama at the base, and the line of vehicles spent an hour weaving through rush hour traffic already slowed by the storm.

The Globe That Warms: -50 in Maine

An older article, but you get the point. Ironic that New England is packed full of liberals who believe in global warming. It's appropriate that they endure this weather. Maybe it will change minds and hearts.

FORT KENT, Maine — An arctic blast from Canada is bringing brutally frigid air and wind chills expected to dip to 50 below zero to northern New England, prompting officials to warn residents to take precautions against the cold.

The National Weather Service in Caribou issued a statewide wind chill warning Sunday night effective through Monday.

Bitterly cold air will remain over northern Maine through Monday night, forcing temperatures down below zero with negative double-digit wind chill values.

Flashback: Gore Said Snow and Ice Disappearing a Year Ago

Now what does Al Gore say (after the record winters of the last few years)? Oh, he says that is caused by warming too. See the stupidity yet? No matter what happens, they'll say it's caused by manmade global warming. That way they can cram there government regulations and taxes down our throats to 'save us.'

COPENHAGEN, Denmark, December 14, 2009 (ENS) - Snow and ice across the planet are melting much faster than anticipated, and the cryosphere - the Earth's ice and snow cover - is very vulnerable to climate change, finds a new report presented today at the United Nations Climate Summit by former U.S. Vice President Al Gore and Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

Snow cover is diminishing, and glaciers from the Himalayas to the Alps are melting rapidly, with the greatest reductions in the Andes and the Rockies, the report shows.

HONOLULU, Hawaii -- After failing to get climate-change legislation through Congress, the Obama administration plans on pushing through its environmental policies through other means, and Republicans are ready to put up a fight.

On Jan. 2, new carbon emissions limits will be put forward as the Environmental Protection Agency prepares regulations that would force companies to get permits to release greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act.

Empirically Frigid February

Yeah, I know, I know...global warming is causing all this record-setting, deadly cold. (My ass...)

If colder-than-normal temperatures continue into February, this winter could possibly set records for the coldest winter ever in some parts of Georgia. Record low temperatures were set at Macon, Savannah and Alma Jan. 14. Macon reported 16 degrees, breaking the old record of 19 degrees set that date in 1970. Savannah and Alma reported 18 degrees, surpassing the old records of 20 degrees set at both locations in 1964.

[From Georgia eyes coldest winter ever | Freeze Damage content from Southeast Farm Press]

The average temperature in January 2011 was 30.0 F. This was -0.8 F cooler than the 1901-2000 (20th century) average, the 37th coolest January in 117 years. The temperature trend for the period of record (1895 to present) is 0.1 degrees Fahrenheit per decade.

[From CONTIGUOUS UNITED STATES Climate Summary]

The fresh snow was especially troublesome in Tulsa, Okla., where many roads were still impassable from last week's record 14-inch snowfall. The previous storm kept students out of school for at least six days. Mail, bus and trash service were only recently restored.

Five more inches of snow fell Wednesday in Tulsa, according to the National Weather Service. That raised the city's total for the winter to 25.9 inches, breaking the previous seasonal record of 25.6 inches, set during the winter of 1923-24.

PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) – The demand for electricity could reach record high levels on Thursday morning, as temperatures reach a record low. Many people across North Texas will be struggling to stay warm. This means that rolling power outages could potentially return.

As cold temperatures rolled into the Metroplex last week, and the entire area was covered under a blanket of snow and ice, people became enraged when their power went out. The high demand for electricity late last week forced the Electric Reliability Council of Texas to coordinate rolling outages. This process, called load-shedding, is designed to take strain off of the state’s electric grid.

In fact, some temperatures across the state Thursday morning were lower than the North Pole which was a balmy 16 degrees.

In Bartlesville, the temperature reached 28 degrees below 0, an all-time record for Oklahoma. It also sets an all-time record for the city.

The previous state record was -27 in Watts in 1930 and -27 in Vinita in 1909.

We Freeze Because It's Too Warm?

Oh, I see, professor. The climate is becoming more 'dynamic' because of manmade greenhouse gases. But what about when your climatology brothers said that future snows would be a 'rare and exciting event'? You guys want it both ways; and we're all just NOT that dumb.

But before we write off our current cold snap as the British weather playing its usual tricks, we still need to explain why the Arctic high pressure has strayed so far south. And here, says Prof Maslin, is the more likely, and more subtle, link with climate change. "For me," he says, "this shows that the climate is becoming more dynamic, and thus large shifts in the wind patterns are possible – in this case, sub-tropical air being trapped further south than usual."

In other words, we need to remember that while the average temperature is rising, climate change also delivers more extreme weather, from chills to heatwaves. Today, we're stocking up on snowshoes – but best to invest in some air-conditioning as well.

Average 2010 Temp 1 Deg Below "Normal"

Amazing. NOAA (and their buddies at NASA) always try to play the manmade climate change game, but read the last paragraph too. I've bolded the most interesting parts.

The main culprit behind the cold temperatures in December 2010 was the same one which caused the cold winter of 2009-2010; a strongly negative North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) and Arctic Oscillation (AO). When these atmospheric oscillations are in the strong negative phase, they essentially “flip” the weather pattern across North America, with upper-level high pressure and relative warmth over Greenland and Northeastern Canada and upper-level low pressure and cold over the eastern Continental United States, including Florida (Figure 1). This pattern forces the jet stream to plunge south from northern Canada into the southeastern U.S., transporting Arctic air masses into Florida.

***

As mentioned above, South Florida experienced its hottest summer on record in 2010 (with the exception of Naples which recorded its second hottest recorded summer). Despite the record hot summer, average yearly temperatures at the main climate sites will end up around 1 degree below normal, which will be the coolest calendar year since the early and mid 1980s, and among the top 10 on record (except for Miami). At secondary sites Miami Beach and Moore Haven, it was the coolest year on record (please note caveat below table).

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Global Shamming would like to wish everyone a Merry CHRISTmas and Happy New Year. Please enjoy all the warm weather outside, brought to you courtesy of that evil capitalist carbon atom.

A storm system off the Northeast Coast will unleash a paralyzing blizzard along a vast swath of the I-95 corridor today.

The storm is no joke and threatens to shut down major highways in the region and could close some major airports, creating a nightmare for those souls heading home after the Christmas holiday.

[From AccuWeather.com - Weather News | Dangerous Blizzard to Slam Philadelphia to Boston]

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A winter storm that brought a rare white Christmas to parts of the South was barreling up the East Coast early Sunday, with forecasters predicting 6 to 10 inches of snow for Washington and blizzard conditions for New York City and New England.

Airlines canceled hundreds of Sunday flights in the Northeast corridor, with more likely to come as the storm intensifies.

Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina declared states of emergency early Sunday or Saturday night. As North Carolina road crews tried to clear snowy and icy highways, Mid-Atlantic officials spent Christmas Day preparing for up to a foot of snow, plunging temperatures and high winds.

MOSCOW, Dec 26 (Reuters) - Moscow's Domodedovo airport was closed and thousands of Muscovites were left without power on Sunday after a heavy overnight snowfall, the RIA Novosti news agency said.

It quoted an airport spokeswoman as saying flights at the airport, Russia's busiest, were halted after two electricity substations were knocked out.

"The airport service is suspended," the spokeswoman, Elena Galanova, was quoted as saying, adding that it was not clear when operations would resume.

The Moscow United Electric Grid Company said about 100,000 people in the region were affected by power outages, according to RIA.

The temperature in Moscow hovered around zero degrees Celsius on Saturday and early Sunday. Some rail services were also disrupted.

Empirical Winter Worsens for Warming Believers

A look at recent cold weather news from around the globe here in one of these "warmest years on record." Empirical evidence has looked like this for the past several years during winter. Weird how alarmists either look only at warming-related empirical data, or they now proclaim that these winter weather events are caused by warming too.

“We could really see some big avalanches that we haven’t seen in 50, maybe even 100 years if this kind of snow comes in like they say,” Toepher said.
For too many people safety isn’t a concern. When it snows, people will come despite the warnings.

But in this city, hard by the Snow Belt beneath Lake Ontario, there is no need for any caveat. By this time, every year, it has snowed so heavily and so often that any more would be incomprehensible.

Syracuse has met the incomprehensible. As of Tuesday, even before winter had officially begun — at 6:38 p.m. Eastern time — 71.9 inches of snow had fallen this month, making it the city’s snowiest December on record.

[From In Syracuse, a Record December Snowfall - NYTimes.com]

The snow will likely continue across metro Atlanta through Saturday night before ending Sunday morning.

"Across the north Georgia mountains, the precipitation should fall as snow the entire time, allowing 2 to 4 inch accumulations there," Nitz said.

In a statement issued early Thursday, the National Weather Service predicted that 1 to 3 inches of snow could fall across metro Atlanta, with accumulations of an inch or less south of the city.

Swathes of Britain skidded to a halt today as the big freeze returned - grounding flights, closing rail links and leaving traffic at a standstill.

And tonight the nation was braced for another 10in of snow and yet more sub-zero temperatures - with no let-up in the bitterly cold weather for at least a month, forecasters have warned.

NOAA and Old Farmer's Almanac Duel

So who's going to be right? Will NOAA's warming-centric prediction--one that has been increasingly WRONG--hold true for the winter, or will the Old Farmer's Almanac (80-85% accuracy) win the day with its colder-than-normal winter? We've seen how NOAA has blown it over the past several years; the world has had DEADLY COLD winters since 2008, even though NOAA, NASA, and other AGW proponents of the "consensus" tried to prop up "warmest <fill-in-the-blank> on record" claims. All of this while story upon story touted record cold and winter events in China, Russia, United States, and many other places around the world.

Here's my prediction: OFA wins by a mile!

Montana Gets September Snow

I guess this is that 'global climate disruption,' huh? 'Climate change' didn't do enough to throw off the laughable shackles of 'global warming,' given that we've seen record-setting winters and colder summers recently. More empirical evidence to show you that the Earth is not being heated by American capitalism.

Snow began falling in some areas of north central Montana and along the Rocky Mountain Front early on Friday, leaving some people checking their calendar to see if it is still, in fact, summer.

A rain-snow mix in and around Great Falls turned to all snow around 10 am in some areas. Up to an inch of accumulation may be possible throughout Friday, and temperatures will remain in the upper 30s to low 40s.

Barcelona: Heaviest Snow in 25 Years

Oh, that's right...this empirical data is PROOF of global warming. Until there's no record snowfall...then THAT will be proof of global warming. Get the picture? Al Gore does.

Thousands of commuters were trapped in trains as the blizzards struck with many having to be evacuated to sports halls. Flights were cancelled, schools closed and the entire Barcelona region saw major disruption to its road and rail network. The snow storms that have hit areas across Europe are the worst recorded in 25 years. Lake Erie Frozen For First Time in 14 Years!

More empirical evidence. I actually saw one story that tried to say it freezes over every year, as if minimizing the damage this bit of empiricism does to global warming. So much for melting ice. But remember...LOL...this freezing is PROOF of warming too, just as melting is PROOF of warming. Clever, eh?

Following a cold snap in the Northeast, Lake Erie's surface is virtually frozen over for the first time in about 14 years.

The ice ranges in thickness between paper thin along the northern shore and several inches along the southern shore, where many people are ice skating.

Although the ice cover is considered complete, prevailing winds have created some cracks in the ice.

Deep South Snowfall to Continue

While Climategate's Phil Jones FINALLY admits that this entire global warming scare may be just a scare, the U.S. continues to get pummeled with record cold.

Skeptics, Alarmists Clash Over Record Blizzards

Yes scandals and empirical evidence have hampered your efforts to indoctrinate people, alarmists. The lopsided propaganda machine, where manmade global warming theory is unassailable and not open to scrutiny, is in trouble. it's about time.

The scandals have destroyed your "warming trend" evidence, because data relied on in IPCC reports has been tainted by both recent IPCC report revelations and Climategate. Why won't you guys admit this? Because reputations must be saved, that's why. Notice how this has become a battle of hearts and minds? It's NOT SCIENCE at all. It's politics masquerading as science.

"It's absurd for the 'anti-science side' to say we're in a cooling trend when we're in an overall warming trend," says Romm of the Center for American Progress, a liberal think tank. "Heavy snow is not evidence that climate science is false," he added, noting that "the snow we've seen is entirely consistent with global warming theory."

But Patrick J. Michaels, senior fellow in environmental studies at the Cato Institute and state climatologist for Virginia for 27 years, disagrees. "Global warming simply hasn't done a darned thing to Washington's snow," he wrote on National Review, adding that "if you plot out year-to-year snow around here, you'll see no trend whatsoever through the entire history."

Politicians are jumping on the bandwagon, too. "It's going to keep snowing in DC until Al Gore cries 'uncle,'" tweeted Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C.

Global warming advocates feel under attack as skeptics use the record-setting snowstorms -- and the recent discoveries of errors in the U.N.'s climate science study, a growing scandal called climate-gate -- to question the theory that climate change is a manmade problem.

[From FOXNews.com - Global Warming Debate Heats Up in Wake of Record Snowstorms]

Record Winter Weather "Caused" by Warming

Do you know what's truly hilarious? Watching lefty environmentalists and media types practically chew their tongues off in acerbic consternation at skeptics for "seizing on" all this record cold winter weather as evidence that global warming is bullshit (because it is). Hence comes the excuse that alarmist scientists "predicted" this all along--global warming would cause both extremely warm as well as extremely cold weather events. Merely climate revisionism (trying to force events to match the theory).

A new record of 12.5 inches of snow in a 24-hour period was set at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (11.2 on Thursday) -- and flakes were still coming down after midnight. The previous daily record was 7.8 inches on Jan. 15, 1964, and Jan. 14, 1917 and the previous 24-hour record was 12.1 inches. The total for this winter, so far, is 15.7 inches, the second highest recorded in North Texas history. The highest recorded snowfall for a winter season was in 1977-78 with 17.6 inches of snow.

PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) - It took back-to-back blizzards to paralyze the nation's capital, but in the Deep South it only takes a couple inches of snow.

Flakes were falling—or threatened—Friday from Texas to the Florida Panhandle and then up along the coasts of Georgia and South Carolina, bringing a rare white landscape to spots that haven't seen snow in a decade or longer. The storm was crawling east out of Texas, where it left the Dallas area with more than a foot of snow, nearly 200 traffic accidents, thousands without power and hundreds of canceled flights.

ROME (Reuters) – Tourists took rare pictures of snow falling on the Colosseum and the Trevi fountain on Friday, and the Pope reportedly appeared at a Vatican window to watch Rome's heaviest snowfall in nearly a quarter century.

NORMAN, Oklahoma -- A University of Oklahoma student is taking an extra interest in this week's snow storms in the south and northeast and is working to document the events in a very unique way.

Patrick Marsh said it's likely by the end of the week snow will be on the ground in all 50 states.

From Ardmore all the way to Dallas and even in Louisiana, the south is snowed in. For many, it's a winter wonderland in places that rarely see such weather. But none of it comes close to the mess up north where two blizzards have blown through in a week.

NYT: Global Warming Causing Cooling and Warming

As predicted, the NYT steps into the fray to show their usual lefty colors. But they at least utter one truth—the cold, wintery, record-setting weather being experienced in the U.S. right now no more predicts cooling as the heat wave in Rio or lack of snow in Vancouver predicts warming. I wrote about this briefly the other day; unusual weather events have always occurred since record-keeping began. Just pick up an old almanac from the pre-industrial age if you don’t believe me.

So, can we finally admit that empirical data—often used by global warming alarmists when it supports their case (e.g., Gore’s hurricanes, Kerry’s tornados, heat waves, ice melts, etc.)—is useless in this discussion? Otherwise, skeptics like myself will tout cooler weather events (like those happening right now in the U.S. and other parts of the world) as antithetical arguments to prove a point; the point is that alarmists want to cherry-pick empirical observations to which the world pays attention, and that’s extremely disingenuous.

Instead, let’s look at the climate scientists in whom we’ve totally placed our trust to guide and propel MAJOR alterations in world governance, economies, politics, and energy consumption. These are the professionals who are supposed to uphold the highest ethics and give us nothing but untainted, unbiased scientific fact. However, scandal after scandal is currently rocking the main players in the climatology establishment (i.e., the U.N.’s IPCC and the Climate Research Unit at East Anglia University), who are MOSTLY responsible for driving the climate hysteria through advocacy and political bias (much of their “evidence” IS NOT BASED IN FACT at all). Al Gore himself was recently caught in a whopper about ice melts, and it was shown that he just made that prediction up out of thin air; this is the messiah of global warming to whom the world exalts as an ultimate purveyor of climate truth, and he’s a liar.

Curious in the second story that the NYT is near collapse (as well as most other liberal news outlets), while more centrist-to-conservative outlets are doing just fine.

Skeptics of global warming are using the record-setting snows to mock those who warn of dangerous human-driven climate change — this looks more like global cooling, they taunt.

Most climate scientists respond that the ferocious storms are consistent with forecasts that a heating planet will produce more frequent and more intense weather events.

But some independent climate experts say the blizzards in the Northeast no more prove that the planet is cooling than the lack of snow in Vancouver or the downpours in Southern California prove that it is warming.

Record-setting Blizzard in D.C. Cancels AGW Hearing

More poetic justice and irony. Baltimore breaks the snow record set in 1995. Winter weather records are broken in Chicago, D.C., and Philadelphia. Empirical evidence to stick in your global warming pipe and smoke.

Apparently, in an attempt to head-off the constant, recent chipping away at the global warming religion, the leftwing NYT will publish a story tomorrow that blames all these record winter blizzards on GLOBAL WARMING! That's right! When it's warm or there's NO SNOW outside, that's warming caused by heat-trapping, man-emitted greenhouse gases. And when there's a record-setting blizzard, that's warming caused by heat-trapping, man-emitted greenhouse gases. Nice scam, huh? When it's hot, it's warming. And when it's cold, it's warming. This way, the alarmist psychos never lose, LOL!

If we're really honest (and most of us who aren't 12 years old can remember the 1970s or much further back), these record weather events--blizzards, tornado outbreaks, hurricanes, and heat waves--have always happened. If we grab Almanacs and stare back even further, we see that THEY'VE ALWAYS HAPPENED. But those facts won't stop the Kool-aid drinkers. Just as the recent climatology scandals won't stop them.

More Irony: New Obama Climate Service Postponed by Blizzard

Poetic justice continues to pile-on the alarmists and global warming believers out there, even amidst all the empirical data and fraud evidence to the contrary. Thulsa Doom Obama, refusing to acknowledge recent record-setting cold or climate scandal after climate scandal, is sticking to the party-line: Man’s use of fossil fuels (capitalism) is heating up the world. What would you expect from a Marxist like Obama and his Comrades?

Of course, Mother Nature and TRUTH get the last words. Sorry, TD Obama.

So, this schmuck alarmist in the article is going to teach us ‘children’ the difference between climate and weather. Sorry, but the weather reflects the climate. After all, their version of climate equals warmer temperatures that drive empirical changes in weather. But when the empirical part doesn’t fit their template (like all these blizzards), they poo-poo it away and lecture us for not knowing the difference between climate and weather. Or they’ll claim that warming causes the observed cooling; or they’ll claim that La Nina is masking warming.

This is what I call climate revisionism. If there’s a heat wave, hurricane, or if a chunk of ice melts somewhere in the Antarctic, however (even when it doesn’t really happen as recent scandals have shown), they’re quick to jump up and say, “See, see? Global warming!!!” The opposite empirical evidence results in all sorts of hysterical contortions on the part of alarmists, like this lecture on ‘climate’ versus ‘weather.’

As D.C. continued to dig out from Snowmageddon and is keeping an eye on another storm system, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration was busy making a climate change announcement.

NOAA, part of the Department of Commerce, is going to be providing information to individuals and decision-makers through a new NOAA Climate Service office. “More and more, Americans are witnessing the impacts of climate change in their own backyards, including sea-level rise, longer growing seasons, changes in river flows, increases in heavy downpours, earlier snowmelt and extended ice-free seasons in our waters. People are searching for relevant and timely information about these changes to inform decision-making about virtually all aspects of their lives,” the release says.

Earlier snowmelt? That would be nice.

Turns out the release was planned prepared ahead of the snowstorm, which shut federal agencies today and forced its senders to hold a press conference by telephone instead of at the National Press Club.

RFK, Jr.'s Old Claim: D.C. Snowless Due to Global Warming

Notice how these hypocritical, elitist liberals curse the engines of capitalism--oil companies, while flying about the country in private jets (thanks to oil companies) to deliver their "scientifically-anchored" takes on manmade climate change. Of course, they're not concerned with the political stakes of so-called global warming at all (sarcasm intended). Here, one of the Kennedy clan decided to open his illiterate trap about his empirical perceptions of East Coast weather and HIS claimed causes of that weather. Surprise! How about a record-busting D.C. blizzard to shut you up, RFK, Jr.? More poetic justice.

See how believers and alarmists will use empirical data when it suits their argument, but when it goes the other way, they either ignore the data or, incredibly, claim it's ALSO caused by global warming. Therefore, their theory is that warming causes both cooling and warming! That's why the term "climate change" is now used in place of global warming. Smoke and mirrors. Of course the climate both cools and warms. Duh!

Hey Kennedy, Americans don't need help being convinced global warming is a fantasy. Mother Nature and unethical scientists are taking care of that for you!

In Virginia, the weather also has changed dramatically. Recently arrived residents in the northern suburbs, accustomed to today's anemic winters, might find it astonishing to learn that there were once ski runs on Ballantrae Hill in McLean, with a rope tow and local ski club. Snow is so scarce today that most Virginia children probably don't own a sled. But neighbors came to our home at Hickory Hill nearly every winter weekend to ride saucers and Flexible Flyers.

...

Meanwhile, Exxon Mobil and its carbon cronies continue to pour money into think tanks whose purpose is to deceive the American public into believing that global warming is a fantasy.

OJ Prices Go Up

Why? Because of record freezing cold weather in Florida. That's why.

Florida – Expect to start paying more for your morning orange juice. Coca-Cola is raising the price of orange juice products from Minute Maid and Simply Orange. The increase could be as much as 9%, after a cold snap destroyed fruit crops in Florida. The increase will apply to chilled orange juice products and will be the first increase since October 2006.
