Oft-right Soothsayer: Ice Age Coming

Of course, this prediction could be as flawed as all the recent warming predictions and the 1970s ice age predictions. But this person isn't the first to utter an antithetical prediction of late, and it certainly is cold outside.

He seems to get it right about 85 per cent of the time and serious business people - notably in farming - are starting to invest in his forecasts. In the eyes of many punters, he puts the taxpayer-funded Met Office to shame. How on earth does he do it? He studies the Sun.

He looks at the flow of particles from the Sun, and how they interact with the upper atmosphere, especially air currents such as the jet stream, and he looks at how the Moon and other factors influence those streaming particles.

He takes a snapshot of what the Sun is doing at any given moment, and then he looks back at the record to see when it last did something similar. Then he checks what the weather was like on Earth at the time - and he makes a prophecy.

Beware Coming Chill, Scientist Warns

We've seen stories like this before. Of course, like most climate predictions, these could prove wrong too. It's just interesting that there is no REAL consensus.

Contrary to the commonly held scientific conclusion that the Earth is getting warmer, Dr. Don Easterbrook, emeritus professor of geology at Western Washington University and author of more than 150 peer-reviewed papers, has unveiled evidence for his prediction that global cooling is coming soon.

“Rather than global warming at a rate of 1 F per decade, records of past natural cycles indicate there may be global cooling for the first few decades of the 21st century to about 2030,” said Easterbrook, speaking on a scientific panel discussion with other climatologists. This, he says, will likely be followed by “global warming from about 2030 to 2060,” which will then be followed by another cooling spell from 2060 to 2090.

Easterbrook spoke before a group of about 700 scientists and government officials at the fourth International Conference on Climate Change. The conference is presented annually in Chicago by the Heartland Institute, a conservative nonprofit think tank that actively questions the theory of man's role in global warming. Last year the Institute published Climate Change Reconsidered, a comprehensive reply to the United Nations' latest report on climate change.

Greenland Glacier Loses Huge Ice Chunk

Now, before you go jumping to conclusions that this means global warming is real (it isn't), look at the second sentence. This was about 10 years before climatologists, at the time, were declaring "The Coming Ice Age." Yes, we were all going to die then too, but it was because we were going to freeze to death.

These morons have been guessing and getting climate predictions wrong for decades, but apparently we're all too dense to see the pattern of stupidity and fear into which we lead them lead us.

A chunk of ice four times the size of Manhattan has calved from Greenland's Petermann Glacier, scientists announced today.

The last time the Arctic lost such a large chunk of ice was in 1962.

"In the early morning hours of August 5, 2010, an ice island four times the size of Manhattan was born in northern Greenland," said Andreas Muenchow, associate professor of physical ocean science and engineering at the University of Delaware.

Climate Science Fiction of 1970s

Many of us skeptics have seen the Newsweek, Time, and the New York Times stories about the coming ice age from the mid-1970s. Just so you know, that wasn't just media-fed fear. Government-connected climate scientists were saying the same things then and wrote a textbook about it. LOL! Are we really all this dumb? Apparently so. It looks like it took an email leak to bring this Goliath down.

Many of you are too young to remember, but in 1975 our government pushed "the coming ice age."

Random House dutifully printed "THE WEATHER CONSPIRACY … coming of the New Ice Age." This may be the only book ever written by 18 authors. All 18 lived just a short sled ride from Washington, D.C. Newsweek fell in line and did a cover issue warning us of global cooling on April 28, 1975. And The New York Times, Aug. 14, 1976, reported "many signs that Earth may be headed for another ice age."

OK, you say, that's media. But what did our rational scientists say?

In 1974, the National Science Board announced: "During the last 20 to 30 years, world temperature has fallen, irregularly at first but more sharply over the last decade. Judging from the record of the past interglacial ages, the present time of high temperatures should be drawing to an end…leading into the next ice age."

Remember how Galileo recanted his preaching about the earth revolving around the sun? He, of course, was about to be barbecued by his leaders. Today's scientists merely lose their cash flow. Threats work.

LOL! Yes, you read that correctly.

Notice the groundwork being laid here? That's right. This scientist says that global warming will cause the next ice age. This is an old tactic from the hoaxers--blame cooling on warming. LOL! See...we can't win for losing. Global warming CAUSES EVERYTHING when you're a Kool-Aid drinking lunatic. This is simply more revisionism...trying to find ways to keep global warming research alive in a world that has seen what a hoax it is.

Starting roughly 12,800 years ago, the Northern Hemisphere was gripped by a chill that lasted some 1,300 years. Known by scientists as the Younger Dryas and nicknamed the "Big Freeze," geological evidence suggests it was brought on when a vast pulse of fresh water — a greater volume than all of North America's Great Lakes combined — poured into the Atlantic and Arctic Oceans.

This abrupt influx, caused when the glacial Lake Agassiz in North America burst its banks, diluted the circulation of warmer water in the North Atlantic, bringing this "conveyer belt" to a halt. Without this warming influence, evidence shows that temperatures across the Northern Hemisphere plummeted.

GASP!: Great Lakes Ice Declining!

Really? And this is the same 1970s where scientists were predicting a coming ice age? So how accurate was their data then, if the predicted frozen apocalypse didn’t come to pass? One must have an accurate baseline to say that the current level of ice is somehow different or declining. The last sentence I highlighted below from the article really says it all: There is no way to accurately measure ice over the Great Lakes. If that’s true today then it was certainly more so in the 1970s, given the technological differences.

Did they really just imply that the last two winters were ‘mild’? Interesting. Oh that’s right…Fox just linked to the AP article. AP…now that makes more sense (not the article but the intent of the article).

Ice Cover on Great Lakes Declining, Scientists Say

CLEVELAND — Ice cover on the Great Lakes has declined more than 30 percent since the 1970s, leaving the world's largest system of freshwater lakes open to evaporation and lower water levels, according to scientists associated with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

They're concerned about how the milder winter freeze may affect the environment. But they're also trying to come to terms with a contradiction — the same climate factors that might keep lake ice from freezing might make freezing more likely if lake levels drop due to evaporation.

Scientists at the Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory in Ann Arbor, Michigan, say global climate change can be at odds with regional climate patterns. Accurately measuring ice cover across a lake system that spans 94,000 square miles in the United States and Canada is no small task, they say.
